Tales of the Northern Regions
Miritral is the capital of the Kingdom of Elendel. The city is the largest in the entire kingdom, rivaled only by Brenhal to the East and and Tireshal to the North. In the past, the city was known as Kredikshal, and was the capital of the Empire of Kredikshaw, but was later renamed in honor the First King’s wife.
Being a large and populous port city, Miritral is also a center for wealth and diversity, especially in the relatively sparse Northern Regions. Though the city has its poor areas, mostly in the form of various orc-populated ghettos, much of the city is in great shape. The city has even formed a large cleaning crew dedicated to keeping the buildings, streets, and even the ghettos clean. However, with a population almost in the 50,000 range, keeping watch on every part of the city is no easy task. Crime, especially at night, is frighteningly common for the capital of a modern kingdom. A few areas of the city are, to those intent on knowing, known to be strongholds of sorts for various thieves and robbers guilds. Little is known about these guilds. So little, in fact, that the city guard hasn’t been able to track them down for nearly a century. However, despite the presence of these guilds and the activities of criminals, the vast majority of Miritral residents go about their day-to-day without coming under harm, thankfully.
The city is protected by a tall and thick stone wall that stretches around the entire city perimeter, with gates at every major road and along the port districts. The wall is staffed by a very large force of trained guardsmen, who also patrol the city streets day and night. Besides the city guard, Miritral is also home to a large number of Elendel’s military forces, and is relatively close to their main base of operations, The Stone of the South.
